Pesronal Statement & Visit to SLAC

Reflections (31/07)

Angeline Tsui:
We had a writing lesson in this morning. We learnt how to write a personal statement. We learnt to plan our essay using various techniques including brainstorming and idea maps. We had also tried free writing. The lesson was subservience. We went to Stanford Linear Accelerator in the afternoon. Professor White showed us around the campus. He was fun and nice. We then listened to a talk delivered by Professor Martin L. Perl, who was a Nobel Prize winner. He introduced the dark matter, energy and the universe to us. It was both an interesting and informative day.

Annie Xia:
I loved the writing lesson with Dr. Conrad in the morning. He had a lot to say and a lot for us to do. I was surprised by the amount of homework that we got. But in my heart I know it was beneficial for us and that I was able to learn a lot from the experience. At least we come here to learn, not to play!

Beatrice Lai:
We had our Personal Statement lesson this morning. Dr. Conrad taught us how to write a good letter to apply for a place in a university. He said that to write a good essay, we must first do a draft work, thinking what we want to express in our essay. Though we have many assignments to be submitted to Dr. Conrad, I believe it is a valuable experience to brush up my English.

Candace Kwan:
My favourite part of the day was the writing lesson with Dr. Conrad Scott-Curtis. I have always had difficulty generating ideas and finding the best environment to write. However, Dr. Conrad gave me many new ideas on improving myself like using prewriting techniques such as free writing and making mind maps.

Candace Lo:
I also found the Nobel Prize winner’s speech very good. I only wish we could have interviewed him longer because his life story is simply too inspiring and beautiful. It was a pity that we had to leave early due to catching the last bus, because it was a once in a lifetime experience to visit SLAC.

Cheryl Yuen:
We attended the personal statement lesson this morning. We had learnt how to write an essay properly and plan before writing. Dr. Conrad told us to plan and draft before writing. After having lunch, we went to the Stanford Linear Accelerator Centre by bus. We met with Dr. White, who is friend of Sister Margaret, and showed us the Centre. We then met with Professor Martin, who is the 1995 Nobel Prize (physics) winner. He taught us a lot about the physics theory, like the structure of atoms and the particles. I appreciate him a lot, although I didn’t comprehend what he was talking about. I think I should revise a bit so that I could understand what he was talking about today.

Cynthia Yip:
Today what I like is the SLAC visit. We talked to the famous Nobel Prize winner Professor Martin Perl. We listened to the speech delivered by two successful Hong Kong scientists who work at SLAC. It is really amazing and we are very lucky to have a chance to meet them.

Ellian Cheung:
Today, we had a lesson on personal statement. We have learnt many useful ways of planning an essay. Dr. Scott-Curtis was very nice and humorous, and we all had a great time with him. After that, we had a visit to Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. We met with Professor Martin Perl, the Nobel Prize Winner, who talked about dark energy. It was a great learning day.

Ingrid Ng:
Before noon, we had our English writing class, taught by Dr. Scott-Curtis. He cracked a lot of jokes, which was hilarious. We started the English classes with planning. We tried free writing, which was to write continuously for about 13 minutes. It was difficult to stay on track of the topic, but Dr. Scott-Curtis said this was one way to solve writer’s block. I did not think this was the best way for me to think of ideas for my essays, so I may try some other ways like idea maps that Dr. Conrad suggested. In the afternoon, we went to the Stanford Linear Accelerator Centre. It was a beautiful place with many types of equipment for carrying out research on particles and cosmology. Professor White introduced some objects that were used in experiments in the laboratory. We attended a talk by Professor Martin Perl, the Nobel Prize winner who discovered Tau Lepton. The virtue that aided him in this achievement was persistence, as he persisted in his belief of smaller undiscovered particles. It was a great day.

Janice Sung:
Dr. Conrad’s lesson was the best thing today. He is a very nice teacher and he wanted us to hand a piece of work which we really care about. He gave us time to do homework, and he also tried to cheer you up if you said you really hate the writing.

Jessica Chow:
This is the fifth day of the Stanford study tour. We had lessons in the morning and an outing to the Stanford Linear Accelerator Centre in the afternoon. I had learnt how to write a statement in the personal statement in the writing lesson. The teacher, Dr. Conrad, taught us about the writing process. It was divided into planning, brainstorming, free writing, idea map and cluster map. These ways make it easier to figure out what you are going to write. The teacher gave us some tasks to complete and hand it in on the coming Monday. Dr. Conrad will teach us about how to write a personal statement essay for a college application and also told us about the essay section of the SAT in the coming lessons. In my point of view, Dr. Conrad gave us a very useful and meaningful lesson. I could make good use of the things that he had taught me when I was working on my comprehension and statements. I think this is the most meaningful and enjoyable part of the day.

Jessie Tsui:
We had the Personal Statement lesson today in the morning and it was far more interesting than I expected. Dr. Conrad was hilarious and nice to us and he taught us lots of useful skills which helped to consolidate my writing. I thought the lesson was beneficial to us since it was always subservient for us like applying for the university and college. We went to visit Stanford Linear Accelerator Center in the afternoon and we were given speeches by several special guests. I learned a lot of knowledge about dark matter and I was more interested in science now.

Kennes Hung:
Today we had our personal statement lesson. We learnt how to write good essays. At the beginning of the lesson, I thought writing a good essay was an extremely hard work. However, after having Dr. Conrad’s lesson, I learnt some skills of writing an essay and I am not that fear of writing now. I really need to read more and write more to improve my English. In the afternoon, we visited SLAC and gained much knowledge about science.

Laetitia Wu:
We went to the SLAC today. It is the first time that I visited a scientific institute of such great importance and we even got to meet Professor Martin Perl, a Nobel Prize laureate in physics; and other great scientists, who gave us great talks. What struck me most is that these scientists are humans as well—they have all gone through ups and downs in life and got such great achievements only through diligence and persistence. When we face criticism, as Professor Perl did during his research, we must learn to stay firm to our beliefs and plough on no matter what. We must always be inquisitive about our world, like Professor Perl, who is still doing research even at his age. In the end, he quoted William Shakespeare: “There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.” We must stay open to continuous learning, one of the 16 habits of mind, only through this can we succeed.

Larissa Tang:
In the morning, we went for the personal statement class. We had heard earlier that it was going to be writing essays, which honestly was not my favorite, so I thought it would be rather boring. Surprisingly, it turned out to be very interesting and I really appreciated the relaxing atmosphere in class. Professor Conrad was very nice and he came around the room to talk with us about what we wanted to learn in writing essay. He also got everyone involved in the class and there were interactions between teacher and students. I had also done the free writing which I had never tried before. The rule was that we could not stop writing during the ten minutes. I found myself thinking very slowly, so I would try to think faster next time in writing essays. In the afternoon, we went to SLAC. We were able to see some science equipments which fascinated us. The most important part was that we could meet Professor Martin Perl, who was the Nobel Prize winner in Physics in 1995. He was friendly and smart in the way he talked. We could also ask questions about his life! Although he got the Nobel Prize, he was not boasting about his successful discovery. Therefore, I also learnt to be humble. This day was a great learning day.

Linda Cheng:
We had the lecture about personal statement and visited SLAC today. We discussed about successes and problems as a writer and our expectations towards the personal statement with Dr. Conrad. We learnt about the writing process and what to think about when we are writing essays. The visit to SLAC was fun. Professor White is nice and told us a lot about SLAC. We also attended the talk conducted by Professor Martin Perl. He said that life does not always go the way you want. I learnt persistence from him.

Pinky Kwan:
We had a personal statement class in the morning with Dr. Scott-Curtis. I was afraid of writing long essays, so I was not looking forward to the lesson. However, Dr. Scott-Curtis was really kind and listened first to our thoughts about writing before teaching us. This helped me to understand my problems in writing. After that, he taught us some planning methods before writing. We tried free writing but I did not think it suits me, therefore, I would choose other methods when I do me personal statement. Then we visited the Stanford Linear Accelerator Centre and met Professor Martin Perl, who had won the Noble Prize in 1995. He taught us about dark matter and energy and he was humorous. I enjoyed his talk and appreciated his persistence which is an essence to success. I should learn that from him and should not give up easily.

Rachel Kwan:
Today we had a writing lesson which mainly covered the writing of personal statement and SAT writing. Dr. Conrad taught us some writing skills. For example how to use a cluster map or mind map to develop an essay. He also gave us assignments so that we would be able to share on Monday’s lesson. After lunch, we took a bus to SLAC (a science laboratory). It was really big inside and we just walked part of SLAC. Then we had a meeting with Professor Martin Perl. He talked about dark matter during the seminar. I think it was our pleasure to have a meeting with Professor Martin. I enjoyed the seminar very much. After that, I think being a scientist is not easy. They have to do a lot work even they just do a simple experiment.

Renee Yeh:
I really think that the meeting with Professor Martin Perl, the Nobel Prize winner, was my highlight of the day. He really taught us a lot about dark matter and energy and why it is important to persevere in your work no matter what even when nobody else believes in you.

Rosa Li:
Today, we had our first lesson on writing personal statements. Since I am not particularly interested in writing, I was not really looking forward to it. However, after this lesson which Professor Scott-Curtis gave, my view towards writing changed. The professor taught us the first stage of the writing process, which is planning; and after a practice on free-writing, which I have never done before, I found out more about my weaknesses in writing. He also taught us to “show, don’t tell”, that is, we must always back up our statements with concrete examples. It was a great lesson and I hope my writing will really improve, as we still have two more writing lessons next week, which I am really looking forward to.

Selena Leung:
We attended a lesson on personal statement. During the lesson, we talked about the writing experience. The teacher, Dr. Conrad shared some writing skills with us and introduced his writing process to us. I personally do not write well before, so this helps me a lot. In the afternoon, we visited the SLAC and Dr. White led us to walk around. We met the 1995 Nobel Prize winner, Professor Martin Perl in the auditorium. He gave us a lecture about dark matter and dark energy. I think this is quite interesting and this helps my study of physics. Meeting such a great professor is an honour, and this encourages me to know more about science.

Stephanie Chow:
We first had an English writing lesson which was led by Dr. Scott-Curtis today. We discussed, learnt and practiced. His lessons aroused our interest in writing. He also introduced ways for us to practice writing. In the afternoon, we visited the Stanford Linear Accelerator Centre (SLAC). It was a laboratory for investigations on particle astrophysics and cosmology. The 1995 Noble Prize Winner Professor Martin Perl gave us a talk on Dark matter and energy. His persistence on scientific experiment and humbleness impressed all of us. “Professor Martin Perl is the treasure of SLAC.” Yes, I agree. Not only is his knowledge the treasure of SLAC, and also his attitude towards research.

Theodora Yu:
I really enjoyed the writing class on Friday with Dr. Conrad Scott-Curtis. He was very different from the teachers in Hong Kong: he was open to tell us some personal things about himself, for example, he was a dancer. He interviewed each of us so he could know our problems in writing.

Tiffany Tsah:
We had our personal statement lesson this morning. We learnt some techniques for starting and ending an essay. Besides, we had a chance to try free writing which helps us to brainstorm ideas for a composition. In the afternoon, we went to Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC). We met Professor Martin who won a Nobel Prize in Physics in 1995. He presented his findings to us briefly and we had the chance to interview him. This is both a valuable and unforgettable experience to me.

Valerie Tang:
We took the personal statement class today and it was the most enjoyable lesson since I arrived in Stanford. Initially I am very interested in improving my writing skills, now that I’ve had the class, I understand more about how to write an essay that shows what kind of person you are, your values, your background etc. The free-writing part was also a lot of fun and I gained a lot in learning how to generate ideas.

Vicky Cheung:
I like both the visit to SLAC and the writing lesson with Dr. Conrad. However, my favorite part up to now is still the campus tour. Besides, I am also glad that I could be one of the students of Dr. Conrad who is a nice and helpful teacher. The beautiful places and friendly people make me like Stanford so much.

Victoria Chan:
I really like the visit to the Stanford Linear Accelerator Centre. It was fun to ride the bus to there. It passed through a lot of scenery and it was very nice. Sadly, we had no time to stay longer and the scientists cannot finish their talk. I hope we can hear more things about the Hong Kong scientists.

Victoria Kwok:
In the morning, we had attended a lesson on how to write our own personal statement. Before the lesson, I was worried because I do not know much vocabulary. In fact, Dr. Conrad is very nice and he taught us to do some preparations before writing. I think that free writing is very interesting because we can write what we wanted to say. If you cannot think of anything to write, you can write down “Oh my God” in your free writing. I hope that I can write well in my essays. In the afternoon, we went to SLAC and met with Dr. White. Dr.White led us to walk around SLAC and taught us things about physics and chemistry. Then, we met with Dr. Martin Perl in the auditorium. He gave us a talk. I agree with him that we should not easily give up when we do things or any experiments. If we have something that we don’t know, go and search for it.

Daily Schedule (30/07)

- Mathematical Explorations: Game Theory (Dr. Smita Sexana)
- Cardiovascular Physiology (Dr. Eon Rios)
- College Panel

Game Theory & Cardiovascular Physiology

Heart Dissection

Reflections (30/7)

Angeline Tsui:
We had a mathematical exploration class in the morning. We learnt the game theory and think of strategies of winning a game. It was fun and extraordinary. We had a cardiovascular physiology class in the afternoon. We learnt about the cardiovascular system. We had learnt the components and the function of cardiovascular system. Moreover, we dissected animal hearts. The experiment helped us understand more about the structure of a heart. It was interesting and informative.

Annie Xia:
I really liked both lessons, Game Theory and cardiovascular physiology today. Our teachers were both really informative and ready to answer all of our questions and do many activities with us. I can only hope the rest of my time at Stanford will be as interesting and amazing as today’s lessons were. I am also looking forward to the college
panel later as I have lots of questions to ask the panel members regarding university.

Beatrice Lai:
In the morning, we had our math strategy lesson. This maths lesson was slightly different from that in Hong Kong. In Hong Kong, we only study basic maths skill but today we learnt ‘game theory’ which shows how to get a higher chance to win a game. After our lunch, we studied physiology. Each of us dissected a heart of a pig. We learnt a lot from today lessons.

Candace Kwan:
As a person who is not really good at Mathematics, I expected “Game Theory” to be a bit boring. But it was a mathematical exploration that really opened up many worlds. I would never have guessed that games have strategies that can always ensure victory no matter what moves another player does. It was really much more interesting than any Mathematics lesson I have ever had!

Candace Lo:
Today was filled with lessons. We did some physiology and math. I like the ‘Game Theory’ lesson as I really had fun playing the games and exploring the strategy of winning! Dr. Smita and Dr. Eon were very nice and informative.

Cheryl Yuen:
We had our Game Theory lesson this morning. I had learnt a lot of strategies for winning various games. I enjoyed the lesson a lot though I did not totally comprehend them. After lunch, we had the physiology lesson. I was exposed to new concepts and terms like the structures of the heart and Hematocrit, which describes the percentage of the blood volume that is due to Red Blood Cells. We dissected animal hearts afterwards. I could not really identify the structures of the heart, since I did not get enough sleep last night and could not concentrate at class. However, I still enjoyed the process of the heart dissection. I should get enough sleep tonight, so that I could pay more attention in class tomorrow.
Cynthia Yip:
We had our math lesson about game theory in this morning. I learnt some strategies of wining the maths games. Although I didn't understand the concepts well at the beginning, but after listening to the teacher's explanation, I began to grasp the key of the games. After having our lunch, we attended the physiology class. It was the first time I had ever dissected an organ. I found that heart dissection is very interesting.

Ellian Cheung:
This morning, we had Mathematical Explorations. We learnt about strategies of winning a game, and I found them very useful. Later in the afternoon, we had cardiovascular physiology lesson. I had never dissected a heart before, and I thought it would be very disgusting. However, it was way better than what I had expected. It was great that we can apply things that we had learnt to complete the heart dissection. I am very grateful that I am given this valuable opportunity to learn in such a good university.

Ingrid Ng:
After breakfast we walked to our Mathematics class. We explored the basic winning strategies for various games. It was quite complicated because we had to think of all the possible outcomes of a game. We had fun thinking and solving problems. After lunch we took the Line-B bus to the medical centre. We met Dr. Eon, who taught us cardiovascular physiology. We inspected the hearts of pigs hands-on. I found out about the valves, aorta and pulmonary arteries and veins. It was satisfying. At night, we had a talk with the college panel, which was quite interesting. I hope I could become better at thinking up winning strategies in games.

Iris Chang:
Today I've learnt a lot from the heart dissection experiment during the Physiology lesson. This is a valuable experience for me as I had only dissected a bull eye before in form 2. I had never seen a real animal heart before. This has expanded my horizons. However I was not careful enough to handle the heart. If I have another chance to do these dissections again I would be more careful.

Janice Sung:
Today, we had our physiology and math lessons. I learnt different strategies of winning math games in the former lesson while it was the first time for me to dissect a heart in the latter. Both lessons are so meaningful to me.

Jessica Chow:
This is the forth day of the Stanford study tour. We had our Mathematical Explorations lesson in the morning and Cardiovascular in the afternoon. In the Mathematical Explorations lesson, the teacher taught us some game theory, which is the strategy to win a game. I found the skills really useful because I won many times in the game after I applied the strategy. I was glad with my success. I am looking forward to the activities that we are going to have tomorrow.

Jessie Tsui:
We had the Mathematical exploration lesson today in the morning and we learned about the Game Theory which was intriguing. The games were intellectual as well as delightful. I learned that we should tackle problems from different perspectives and try to think for alternatives to solve problems. We had the Physiology lesson in the afternoon and I was so excited that I could dissect the heart of a pig! I learned more about the cardiovascular system and I enjoyed the dissection which was so impressive.

Kennes Hung:
We got math lesson in the morning. I learnt some game theory which taught us about winning strategy of some games. After lunch, We had physiology lesson. I learnt many things about heart such as arteries, veins and valves. We dissected animal hearts after that. My knowledge on physiology was widened through the meaningful experiment.

Laetitia Wu:
Lots of things can be self-learned. Before this trip, I studied a bit of cardiovascular physiology by myself first to prepare for this class. It turned out that I could totally follow what Dr. Eon said during the lesson and I was able to answer most of the questions he raised in class. I believe that learning is limitless and therefore we should never wait until something to be taught but commit to our own learning. My philosophy was well proven today!

Larissa Tang:
This morning, we went for a Math lesson. It was more fun than those we had in Hong Kong as there were less calculations but thinking practices. In the lesson, we played mathematics games. We had to think about different winning strategies, which I found it really hard as it requires a lot of high-order thinking skills, but I still found it interesting and challenging. After the lesson, I learnt that I had to remain focus so that I would not be distracted. In the afternoon, we went for heart dissections. I had never dissected anything before, so this dissection was really exciting for me. I was so jubilant to know how our heart works and got to know its structure. I thought mine was not a perfect dissection as it was only my first time. I will seize the opportunity whenever I have in the future to improve my dissection skills. The day was both fun and exciting as I had tried something that I had never done before.

Linda Cheng:
Today’s lecture on Game Theory was really interesting and it’s different from the mathematics lessons we usually have in Hong Kong. Instead of being spoon-fed the information, we had to analyze from trial and errors and make a conclusion. I enjoyed it a lot. It reminded me that strategies to solve problems are really important. We also attended a lesson on cardiovascular physiology. We mainly learnt about the circulatory system and the structure of the heart. Most importantly, we dissected pigs’ hearts! I had never tried this before and it was quite an experience.

Pinky Kwan:
In the morning, we attended a Math section. Our teacher taught us through playing games. Our mission was to find out winning strategies for various games. I did quite well in the first game but was not good at the others. I think I should improve my thinking skills to be as smart as my classmates. We had a Physiology lesson, which we could try dissecting a pig’s heart. The lesson was fun, especially for a science-fan like me. I was so pleased when Dr. Eon praised me for doing my dissection well. We observed the internal structure of the heart and it really helped my learning. I understood more about how our hearts work and I hope that I would have more chances to do dissection in my future.

Rachel Kwan:
In the morning, we had mathematics exploration. The teacher told us that there was a winning strategy for most of the games. She motivated us to find out those strategies through playing with our classmates. In the afternoon, we had physiology lesson. This is the study of the processes and functions of an organism. Dr. Eon explained some basic concepts such as the circulatory system to us. We dissected hearts of pigs after that. I really enjoyed it. By looking at the dissected heart, I understood the structure of the heart better. It is really more practical than reading that from our Biology book.

Renee Yeh:
What I enjoyed the most was today’s cardiovascular physiology course. There were a lot of new terms and concepts, such as ‘vena cava’ and ‘homeostasis’ but I think our class grasped it really well. I was looking forward to dissecting a heart, and I was definitely able to learn a lot from both our experienced teachers in Math and Cardiovascular Physiology. I look forward to more educational times at the beautiful Stanford University.

Rosa Li:
During the morning session, we attended a lesson on Game Theory. I had not learnt anything about it before, Dr. Smita showed us ways to win different games. After today’s lesson, I know that a strategy is crucial. If you just play the game without any strategy, you will lose. With a good strategy, you can take control of the game and win. In reality, all kinds of tasks require a clear strategy. From today onwards, I will try to analyse each and every situation before hand, and use the best strategy to finish them so as to achieve maximum efficiency.

Selena Leung:
We went for the mathematics lesson which was about game theory this morning. We learnt the skills of winning various games. This is the most interesting mathematics lesson that I have ever took. And this further aroused my interest in mathematics. In the afternoon, we went for the physiology lesson, we learnt about circulatory system. And I tried to dissect a pig heart, it is quite disgusting but I had a lot of fun. This is my first time to dissect a heart, I really do not know what to do with the heart at first but I can finish the dissection at last.

Stephanie Chow:
I should say today was exciting as yesterday even though I had to stay in the campus for lessons for the whole day. We first had a rather “different” math lesson in the morning. We were not working on our calculators for answers, but really doing some thinking and linking the knowledge that we learnt since primary school to achieve various “Winning Strategy”. It was not easy. We had to find the definite way to win the game while playing it. Sometimes, I got so involved in the game that I forgot about my original purpose of playing. I had to remind myself to focus on my goal and stay away from distractions. In the afternoon, we went for heart dissections. It felt special holding the cold pig heart that was just taken from the box of ice. The heart’s muscle was firm. I could see the capillaries of the heart very clearly. I observed real rocks yesterday; I dissected a real heart today. They were all things I had never done before.

Theodora Yu:
The maths game theory was truly an inspiring lesson. The teacher, Dr. Smita, taught us about different winning strategies, using simple but important maths concepts. Throughout the games, I had learnt to think in different ways, even considering the opponent's thoughts. To win a game, the players would have to debate in their own minds the one-way path towards winning and also the opposite one's moves, so that the whole strategy is flawless and effective. I had learnt to think in other's point of view, instead of restricting our minds to our own. The Physiology lessons was the highlight of the day. From Dr. Eon's lecture is professional. He explained the procedures of dissecting a heart patiently to us. I was amazed. I learnt that one must have passion into what he or she is doing. If one has passion, one would be devoted to his work and therefore be 100% involved and hard-working. I would try my best to discover the subject I am passionate with and pour all my heart to it.

Tiffany Tsah:
This morning we had Mathematics lesson. We learnt strategy for winning games. It was interesting and awesome. We then had cardiovascular physiology lesson in the afternoon. We learnt a lot of things about animal’s heart and the cardiovascular system. It was the first time I dissected a pig’s heart, it was so amazing and I am really looking forward to the next dissection.

Valerie Tang:
We had the Game Theory lesson today and it was a lot of fun. I learnt about winning strategies of different games and the process of learning those strategies really made me think. I realized that I actually enjoyed math quite a lot. Then in the afternoon, we learnt about cardiovascular physiology, which includes different systems of the body, various vessels, and the structure of the heart. I learnt a great deal and I also enjoyed the pig’s heart dissection part as well.

Vicky Cheung:
Today was filled with lessons. We did some physiology and math. I like the ‘Game Theory’ lesson as I really had fun playing the games and exploring the strategy of winning! Dr. Smita and Dr. Eon were very nice and informative.

Victoria Chan:
We had our math and physiology lessons today. Both were different from those we had at school. During the math lessons, we learned about the strategies of winning a game. I am truly interested in it and I also learned how to solve different math theory games. During the physiology lesson, I got my first chance to dissect a pig’s heart. It is really helpful for me to observe and feel the texture and the structure of the heart, this experience is really good for me to further my studies in biology.

Victoria Kwok:
In the morning, we attended the mathematics lesson about game theory. I had never thought of there would be any winning strategy for the games. It was so interesting. Think twice before you take action was the lesson that I had learnt in this session. In the afternoon, we learnt about different systems in our body and how our hearts work. After that, each of us dissected one animal heart. It was a great experience that I could apply what I had learnt in the lecture in the experiment.

Field Trip at Marin Headlands

Reflections (29/07)

Angeline Tsui:
We went to Marin headlands today. The weather was cold and misty. We had a picnic lunch. The food was special and delicious. Ian then joined us. We walked down to a beach and observed different types of rocks. We then applied the knowledge which we had learnt yesterday and observed the characteristics of different rocks. We had also analyzed the formation of the rocks. It was fun and interesting.

Annie Xia:
Overall, the visit was really fun and enjoyable. I thought it was really pretty with the mist and the beach, and it was really something right out of a painting. I study geography at school, so I was really glad to get a better understanding of the concepts learnt in the lesson. It’s really different seeing things up close.

Beatrice Lai:
At about 10:00 in the morning, we went to Marin Headlands by coach. It took about one and a half hours. We arrived there at 11:40 and had our lunch at a beach. Then Dr. Ian arrived and we went to the seaside. We learnt different types of rocks. We had a great time in Marin Headlands.

Candace Kwan:
Unfortunately, I was not able to enjoy the visit to the beach as I got a bad stomachache. However, I got a good opportunity to see the good view from inside the bus: rolling hills, seagulls…. It was really something you never see in Hong Kong.

Candace Lo:
Again, I was in charge of taking the photos today. There were a lot of beautiful things to see. We got an opportunity to see a bit of San Francisco, and the houses are so beautiful and cute because they stick together like doll houses. Therefore, I was able to take several good shots.

Cheryl Yuen:
We went to Marin Headlands today. It was cold and cloudy. It was raining slightly when we had lunch near the beach. After that, we met with Professor Ian and went to explore the rocks by the beach. We applied our knowledge that we had learnt yesterday when he asked us questions about the rocks. We walked by the beach as we headed back to the bus. However, the waves were so huge that we all got wet. In spite of this, I still enjoyed the field trip very much. It was a wonderful experience.

Cynthia Yip:
The geology field trip today was exciting, although our shoes all got wet after the trip. We can learn about the characteristics of different rocks by touching them. I also found that geology is an interesting topic to learn.

Ellian Cheung:
Today, we went on a field trip to Marin Headlands. After we had a picnic lunch, we went to look for different types of rocks. It was awesome that we can actually explore what we have learnt in the geology lesson. Throughout this trip, I knew a lot more about the classification of different types of rocks, and I am looking forward to the next field trip.

Ingrid Ng:
We had our box lunches at the Marin Headlands. The turkey Panini was delicious. Afterwards, we went down a trail through shrubs to the beach. We were tricked by Professor Ian on a concrete rock; we thought it was a real rock when he asked us what type of rock it was. There were large boulders and some cliffs around the sea shore and the waves embraced them. We landed on the beach and looked at different rocks and contacts. I finally understood something about rocks and rock contacts. We stood on basalt rocks and examined the fault lines between them and other igneous rocks. Professor told us more about rocks and took photos with us. We had fun striding on the rocks. There was a part of the beach where the water washed towards the cliffs, providing only a narrow path. We had to run to the other side with perfect timing. My feet got all wet because the “water path” stretched longer than I thought. It was a thrilling experience. We left the beach with light hearts.

Iris Chang:
We had a geology field trip today. Apart from learning skills and techniques in observing rocks, we also had a picnic and we had the opportunity to go to the beach. It is a valuable experience for us as this enables us to apply what we learnt in class.

Janice Sung:
Today, we had our geology field trip. From the trip, we had the opportunity to observe different forms of rock structure. We touched and observed the rocks closely, applying the knowledge that we have learnt yesterday. Therefore, I think it is a very good experience.

Jessica Chow:
We went out for a field trip in Marin Headlands today. We had lunch at the beach. Unluckily, it was raining today. Though, I enjoyed having lunch together with my friends. After that, we had learned about different kinds of stones. It was a very enjoyable day.

Jessie Tsui:
We went to Marin Headlands for a field trip today. We had our picnic lunch at a beach and we took a lot of pictures. I learnt a lot about the rocks and we went to the seaside to take a look at the rocks. It was interesting and unforgettable.

Kennes Hung:
We had a field trip at Marin headlands. We got our picnic lunch after having our breakfast. The lunch was so scrumptious. I was so full. After our lunch, we went down to the beach to observe some rocks. People said that walking along the seaside is romantic, however, I disagree with it. My trousers was wet and my feet were hurt by rocks. It was so uncomfortable.

Laetitia Wu:
It was great fun today, hiking through the Marin Headlands with an expert, telling us all about the different types of rock and rock formation. I love it! It was hilarious when we all got our feet wet near the end, a bunch of shoddy and morose teenagers limping through the sand bare feet, while happy kids run around us, laughing. How often do you see a scene like that?

Larissa Tang:
Today was a fun day: we went for a field trip! Our destination was Marin Headlands. Firstly, after the arrival, we had our lunch under the cold wind. Although I was shivering, the nice hills and blue sea soon made me forget about the cold. Then, we headed to the trail that led us to the beach. We needed to be very careful as the trail was full of mud and sand. We even walked on some big rocks! My shoes got all wet when I was trying to pass a corner that waves could reach, but I think this was fun as I had seldom got to the beach. This was really an unforgettable experience.
The most meaningful part was that we could learn more about geology by applying the knowledge we learnt yesterday in class. We saw lots of rocks and tried to identify them with the help of the geology teacher. This field trip was both fun and meaningful.

Linda Cheng:
We visited the Marin Headlands for today’s geology field trip. It was really sandy there and the sand got into our shoes when we left. Nevertheless, we learnt a lot about different types of rocks and rock contacts by observation and Professor Ian’s explanation. On our way to Marin Headlands, we also passed through the Golden Gate Bridge. However, there was too much fog so we couldn’t see it clearly. But we are going to somewhere around there next week too. Hope that we will be more fortunate next time.

Pinky Kwan:
In the morning, we took a school bus to Marin Headlands, which was the site of our field trip. Before the field trip, we had lunch beside a beach. After that, our teacher, Ian, joined us and we started off. Although the roads were difficult, it was quite fun. We used our geology knowledge that we learnt yesterday to distinguish different kinds of stone on the way. As the stones were near the sea, we had to be very careful while walking. I must thank those who had helped me get over the rocks for their kindness. Then we headed back to the bus by travelling across the beach. Unluckily, my shoes and socks were all wet and filled with sand! However, this field trip helped me to understand more about what we had learnt in yesterday’s lesson and I enjoyed it!

Rachel Kwan:
Today we went to the Marin Headlands for geology exploration. The weather was not good. It was cloudy for the whole afternoon and we had our lunch near the beach. After that, we started to walk up to the hill to start our exploration. Professor Ian taught us about the structure of rocks and demonstrated to us. He also asked us to try to observe the rocks’ structure. When we returned, one unforgettable thing happened. While we were heading to the bus, we needed to walk beside the beach. Suddenly a big wave rushed out from the sea and half of my body got wet. I think I would wash all my clothes before I go to sleep.

Renee Yeh:
The beach was really enjoyable… but my shoes and my feet got really dirty and wet! However, despite that, it was worth it to get a better understanding of geological concepts such as faulting. I was able to hone my observational skills a lot.

Rosa Li:
It must be hard being a geologist! After all the hiking through the sand and rocks, and getting my feet wet, I don’t think geology is really that fun… A rock is a rock! But what I like most about today is that we passed through the Golden Gate Bridge—the architecture is awesome! I hope I can get a better view on it next week!

Selena Leung:
It was a very nice day. We went to the Marin Headlands for our field trip. As we arrived, I felt the cold wind. We took our lunch somewhere near the beach. After that, we walked to take a look at the rocks. The teacher told us to observe the rocks and he asked us questions about the types of rocks. Afterwards, we walked along the beach to return to where our coach was parked. And we all got our shoes and our legs wet because of the splashing waves. This is a really good experience.

Stephanie Chow:
We went for a field trip at Marin Headlands today. It took us about one and a half hour to reach the destination. We first had our lunch at a beach. It was cold. After we finished our lunch under the icy wind, we headed for the trail that we would go for our field trip. We walked muddy land, sandy staircases and even rocks that were constantly hit by waves. The most exciting part of the day was that we had to pass a corner that waves splashed. I was warned that I would get wet, and advised to get my shoes and socks off. However, I tried my luck by getting through it without removing my shoes and socks. Obviously, it was not my lucky day – my shoes got all wet and my socks soaked. What I had to do at last was to walk bare footed back to the place where our bus parked. It might not feel good walking with wet shoes and socks, but walking on the sand bare footed and feeling the texture of different kinds of sand was a wonderful experience. It was an exciting field trip.

Theodora Yu:
It was fun at the beach today. Throughout the geology field trip, I agree that students can learn better in an actual classroom of nature. We could really feel the texture of the rocks and determine its source, type, etc. We should be more sensitive towards our surroundings so as to make better observations. I also learnt to listen to the teacher’s instruction intently or else I would miss important note.

Tiffany Tsah:
This morning, we went to Marin Headlands. It was chilly and windy, especially by the seaside. We had a great time while applying things that we had learnt yesterday about rocks. I think this is a good way to help us memorize the knowledge taught in the class.

Valerie Tang:
Today we went to the field trip at Marin Headlands and the view was quite beautiful. I took a lot of photos and applied the knowledge I learnt the day before to distinguish different types of rocks. It was a cool experience but it was not so enjoyable when sand ran into my shoes. On a whole, I had a great time there.

Vicky Cheung:
I really enjoyed the visit today and I liked learning more about the cool rocks with such a great teacher. However, I am really excited about the dance lesson we shall have today because I have really high expectations of the dance styles in the US
Victoria Chan:
We just had the geology field trip today and had a chance to study different kinds of rocks. Although we talked about them in the lesson yesterday, the experience is different when you can really feel the rocks and touch them. It is easier for us to learn how to distinguish them and see their contacts when you can see a real rock, so as to apply the knowledge and skills you had learned. This is really a great experience for studying geology.

Victoria Kwok:
n the morning, we had our breakfast as usual and collected a lunch box. In the afternoon, we travelled to Marin Headlands by coach. We had our lunch near the beach. It was very cold. After lunch, we walked by the sea and saw some rocks. Ian taught us how the rocks are formed and how to identify it. We had lots of fun. When we left, we walked by the sea and my shoes were all wet but I think that it was fun.

SAT & Geology

Reflections (28/07)

Angeline Tsui:
We had an SAT practice this morning. The papers were quite difficult. I realized that I should pay more efforts in brushing up my English the test. We had our geology lesson in the afternoon when Dr. Ian introduced the rock cycle to us. We learnt the formation of rocks from weathering to lithification. The lesson was cool and interesting. I am looking forward to the campfire tonight and I am sure we will all have fun.

Annie Xia:
I was very happy today to be challenged quite a bit by the SAT test that we did. We have nothing like it in Hong Kong and I am really looking forward to being able to learn some tips and tricks about it here at Stanford.

Beatrice Lai:
During our geology lesson today, Dr. Ian introduced basic knowledge about geology such as what composite volcanoes are. After the lesson we went to the Stanford book store which is much bigger than those in Hong Kong! I bought lots of books and stationery. We all had a good time today.

Candace Kwan:
What I enjoyed most today was actually the geology lesson. I take geography at school and have always been interested about the Earth, and Dr. Ian was a very knowledgeable man who had just finished his Stanford graduate degree. I am really looking forward to tomorrow’s field trip.

Candace Lo:
In general, I did not really enjoy anything the best in particular today. I was just happy to be in such a beautiful environment with such a great atmosphere for learning. I am looking forward to a good two weeks here.

Cheryl Yuen:
We did the SAT practice test during the morning session. After I did some of the sections, I felt really tiring since the English sections were much harder than I had ever expected. But for the mathematics sections, they were much better than the English one. After lunch, we attended the Geology class. It was quite interesting indeed, even though I failed to understand some of the terms. We went to the bookstore later in the evening, there were lots of stuffs, but they were quite expensive, that is why I had no intentions to buy them. In conclusion, I enjoyed the day very much and anticipate to tomorrow’s trip.

Cynthia Yip:
After having the SAT exam, I felt dizzy because the paper was much more difficult than what I have expected. I realized that I need to read more so as to level up my English standard.

Ellian Cheung:
This morning, we had our SAT mock test. It was quite difficult, but it was a great experience. I think we will all become more prepared for the SAT exam after this practice. In the afternoon, we had a geology class, which I found very interesting. I hope tomorrow’s weather will be fine, so that the field trip can be held successfully.

Ingrid Ng:
After a refreshing breakfast we went into a classroom for the SAT examination practices. Most Mathematics questions were simple; English questions were more difficult as there was little time to analyze whole paragraphs in 25 minutes. The exercise was practical and could improve my English reading skills. In the afternoon, we listened to Professor Ian as he quickly taught us basic geology: rocks and their formation. The lesson was interesting but I had trouble in distinguishing the age of different rocks. Tomorrow we will go on a field trip to the Marine Headlands to look at rocks in context. We should have great fun while being beginner geologists.

Iris Chang:
We had SAT workshop today, and I found the papers difficult. In order to improve my Maths and English in these following years, I will read more books and do more exercises.

Janice Sung:
Due to the poor results I did in the SAT this morning, I discovered that I should strengthen my vocabulary and read more books in order to improve my English skills. Also, I learnt different forms of rocks in the geology lesson.

Jessica Chow:
We did the SAT exam this morning. It took us three and a half hours which was a very long period of time. I think both English and Mathematics exams were difficult for me and the time limit was a bit short. I felt very exhausted after I did the examination. In the afternoon session, we had been to the Stanford bookstore. I have bought a lot of souvenirs there, including T-shirts, a teddy bear and a magnet for my family and myself. I hope they like the souvenirs I chose. Anyway, I enjoy my day in Stanford very much.

Jessie Tsui:
We have done the SAT practice paper today and it was totally new to me. The format of the test was different from those in Hong Kong. The questions were quite difficult and I could not manage to finish the paper within the time limit. We had the geology lesson in the afternoon and I learnt more about the Rock Cycle which helped prepare us for the field trip tomorrow.

Kennes Hung:
Today we had finished an SAT test. The English test was extremely difficult while the math test was much easier. Yet, I still could not finish it within the time limit. I think I have to improve my time management skills. Dr. Ian introduced various types of rocks to us during the geology lesson. The lesson was fun.

Laetitia Wu:
The most rewarding thing today is that I found out a good lecture really helps a lot. I have always been interested in geology since I was young and would watch documentaries and read articles on it. After today’s lesson, I found out that one lecture beats years of self studying on my own. I learned that ‘learning’ is not simply reading as much as you can. It requires a lot of analysis on the data collected. Today’s lecture helped me smooth out all my concepts and solved some problems I have been pondering for a while. I cannot wait for the field trip tomorrow as it is the first time I would be travelling with an expert! I am sure I will learn a lot.

Larissa Tang:
The second day was a day for studying. In the morning, we went for the SAT tests which lasted for two and a half hours. The mathematics part was alright, but the English part was much more difficult than I had expected. However, I still thought that it was a good practice for us in the summer holiday. In the afternoon, we went for the geology class. I found myself getting more interested in geology after attending this lesson. Although the teacher spoke really fast, I was able to get a brief idea and some important points in geology. I am looking forward to more fun tomorrow!

Linda Cheng:
We had the SAT test today. The mathematics part was pretty simple but the English part was really challenging. I decided to work harder on English after experiencing this mock exam. Now I am anticipating the camp fire tonight. I hope I could take some great shots!

Pinky Kwan:
In the morning, we did a SAT test, which lasted for 2.5 hours. The Maths parts were not very difficult whereas the English parts were really challenging. I learnt that I should improve my English and time planning skills. It was the most rewarding part of today’s activities when we finally submitted it because we had tried our best. Even though we were all very tired after finishing it, we had gained some experiences for the public exams in the future. We would have a field trip tomorrow, in which we could use our knowledge learnt in Geology lesson. I was looking forward to it and I hope that I would enjoy it!

Rachel Kwan:
We had a SAT Standard practice examination in the morning. It took us about 3 hours to finish the whole examination. I found it difficult in the English part but I can manage the mathematics part. We also had a geology lesson in the afternoon, the professor taught us about the structure of the Earth and the differences between rocks and minerals. After this, we went to the Stanford bookshop to buy. I’ve bought some stationeries and a T-shirt. I think I should take more rest tonight since I didn’t sleep well last night.

Renee Yeh:
Today was really satisfying. We had our very first lesson and were able to learn a lot of new things about geology and plate tectonics. Our teacher, Dr. Ian, was very informative and interesting and I was glad to be able to enjoy his experience.

Rosa Li:
The experience of having the SATs is so valuable. From today’s practice, I know more about the format about the examination. I realized that I should learn more vocabularies. The geology lesson was quite rewarding as we learnt a lot on different types of rocks. I hope that I can apply the knowledge during the field trip tomorrow.

Selena Leung:
After completing the SAT practice paper, I realized that the English part of the paper is quite difficult so I should work more on my English. For the mathematics part of the paper, the questions are easier compare to the English part. We attended the geology lesson after lunch. I think the lesson was quite interesting although I have no interest on this subject. We went to the bookstore afterwards, there were a lot of books and souvenirs. I am looking forward to tomorrow’s activities.

Stephanie Chow:
In the morning, we did the SAT test. Although it was challenging, we gained experiences on doing public examinations. Time planning is important to get a good result in exams. We also need a calm mind to read and finish questions carefully. In the afternoon, we went for our first geology lesson. We were told about the different types of rock and rock contacts. We were going to apply the knowledge we learnt today on tomorrow’s field trip. I am looking forward to tomorrow’s field trip!

Theodora Yu:
Today's SAT exam was a reminder for me that there is still much space for improvement in my academic results. I will not be satisfied with the situation now and will do my best to enhance my proof-reading, literary skills and complete the exams in a higher speed.

Tiffany Tsah:
After sitting for a challenging SAT test in the morning, we had our geology lesson in the afternoon. The lessons enriched our knowledge on the subject and I am really looking forward to the field trip at Marin Headlands tomorrow.

Valerie Tang:
We did the SAT mock exam today and I encountered some problems in the vocabulary part of the English test. After the exam, I am more aware of my own standard and the expected standard for universities. Professor Ian, our geology teacher, was very nice and I learnt a lot from his class. I am looking forward to the field trip tomorrow when I can apply the knowledge I learnt from the class.

Vicky Cheung:
Today we did an SAT practice. The English part was hard but I know I shall overcome it in order to get a place in an esteemed university like Stanford. Luckily, the Mathematics part was quite easy. Despite it took me 3 hours to finish the test, I found it worth doing.

Victoria Chan:
Today, we have just taken the SAT practice exam. It is a lot harder than what I have expected, especially the English section. I found it really challenging for me, as for some questions, there are many vocabularies which I don't understand. After this, I realized that I should read more English books in order to train myself. Moreover, we also had the geology lesson today. This helps me to know more about the rock types.

Victoria Kwok
In the morning:, I took the SAT examination. I found that I did not bring my calculator. Luckily, my classmate realized that the iPod touch has the calculator function, so I used the iPod touch for calculation. Afterwards, I discovered that the mathematics sections were easy but the English sections were difficult. In the afternoon, I attended the geology class and I think that it was very interesting. The teachers in Stanford are very nice and they wanted us to ask questions whenever we have anything that we do not understand.

Campus Tour and Scavenger Hunt

Reflections (27/07)

Angeline Tsui:
We had a campus tour around Stanford University today. I was amazed by the size of the campus. It was enormous and wonderful. We then went on a Scavenger Hunt in the afternoon. It was challenging but it was fun. We had a great trip today.

Annie Xia:
I was still very tired from our arrival! The campus tour and Scavenger Hunt were kind of wake-up call for me. From the enjoyable activities today, I learnt to persevere till the end of the game. As long as we do not give up, there will be a way out. Working collaboratively, we were able to finish most of the tasks on time finally.

Beatrice Lai:
After the campus tour, the Scavenger Hunt started at about 2:00 p.m. With the assistance of the helpful professors and students in Stanford, we were able to complete most of the tasks. It is a enjoyable day.
Candace Kwan:
Sometimes, what we truly need is the ability to work as a team. I think today we really showed this because we did division of labor: for example, I was checking the map, while Candace Lo took photos and Vicky carried the dog, our DIY mascot. Overall it was good although we sometimes got lazy and ended up guessing the answers to the clues randomly! I wasn’t ever expecting a scavenger hunt that would end up educational yet fun at the same time.

Candace Lo:
Today I was in charge of taking photos, and I really enjoyed it because it was a little bit artistic and I can learn how to frame shots nicely in a different environment – very sunny and no clouds at all. However, it was very tiring sometimes as the campus was really large and the map is a bit difficult to read. Luckily, we always bumped into our fellow IYC campers that we were able to have a good exchange of opinions and ideas about the clues. With good team work, we completed more or less 20 tasks in one and a half hour.

Cheryl Yuen:
I am glad to be here at the Stanford University. We explored the facilities and campus of Stanford today. Although the trip was exhausting, I had a lot of fun today. Besides, we had a lot of delicious meals. The time capsule was wonderful and unforgettable. Overall, I enjoyed a lot when playing the Scavenger Hunt.

Cynthia Yip:
Through joining the activity of scavenger hunt, I learnt to co-operate with my group mates efficiently. Also, I know more about the campus of Stanford University.

Ellian Cheung:
Today, we had a campus tour around Stanford University. I am very amazed by the size of the campus. Although we all were exhausted after the Scavenger Hunt in the afternoon, we became more familiar with the campus after this enjoyable event.

Ingrid Ng:
In the morning, our counsellors took us around the Stanford grounds and showed us buildings, wonderful fountains and a church. After knowing about the region briefly, we went on a scavenger hunt, which was a life-enriching experience. We read maps to learn our way around, and took photos with our mascot dog to show the places where we came to. We even saw some adorable squirrels. Though it was an exhausting journey, we improved our navigation skills and got more familiar with the Stanford campus.

Iris Chang:
Our group participated in the scavenger hunt around Stanford campus. It was exciting, despite the fact that we were very tired at the end. In the activity, I learnt the importance of cooperation, which is essential in times of teamwork.

Janice Sung:
After participating in the scavenger hunt, I became more co-operative through discussing with other group members. My time management was improved as we had to finish the tasks within the time limit. I also learnt more about the campus.

Jessica Chow:
Today is a very enjoyable day. Among all the things we have done today, I enjoyed the campus tour the most. Stephanie and Christine took us to have a look and walk around the Stanford school campus. The school buildings and dorms in Stanford are very beautiful, very antique. What I can say is that Stanford has such a breathtaking school campus and smart students. I hope I can study in this university one day.

Jessie Tsui:
We visited the Stanford campus today and it was so enormous. The campus was great. Not only did we enjoy ourselves in the Scavenger Hunt, but also knew more about the campus. I am looking forward to the programmes in the coming two weeks. I am sure it will be fun and unforgettable.

Kennes Hung:
We were exhausted today but our tiredness was totally paid off. The campus tour helped us to know more about Stanford and the Scavenger Hunt let us be familiarized with the campus. Besides, through talking with friendly students in Stanford, our oral skills were enhanced. Today is an unforgettable day.
Laetitia Wu:
My first impression of Stanford is that it is really huge. The scavenger Hunt enabled me to know more about the Stanford campus. As a group leader, I had also learned a lesson today. I misinterpreted some instructions from the counsellors and teachers and conveyed wrong messages to my team mates. I promise I will be more attentive and responsive from now on.

Larissa Tang:
In the first day in Stanford, we were astonished by the beautiful gardens and plants. In the morning, we toured around the campus and found that Stanford was really a brilliant place to study as it had such a peaceful environment. In the afternoon, we had our scavenger hunt, which was both exciting and meaningful. It was exciting because we could walk in this big campus on our own. It was also meaningful as we could practice how we could co-operate well with our group members.

Linda Cheng:
We toured around the campus and went scavenger hunting today. The environment was entirely new to me and I got the chance to look into different places at the campus. It was enjoyable.

Pinky Kwan:
In our first day in Stanford University, our counsellors led around the campus and introduced the background information of different buildings to us. The environment was relaxing and the buildings were very beautiful. Then we went on a scavenger hunt that we had to run around the campus in order to finish nearly twenty tasks. As Stanford University is really large, we were exhausted. However, we enjoyed the activity because we could find some places only relying on a map. Through this activity, we know more about Stanford’s culture and its campus. We learnt how to co-operate with each other and how to plan our time well.

Rachel Kwan:
I enjoyed a lot during the first day in Stanford. Stanford University is bigger than I expected. There are a lot of facilities. We have a lot of delicious food in every meal. During the school campus tour, we visited the Memorial Church and it was very great. It used hundreds of colors to paint the wall of the Church.

Renee Yeh:
I really enjoy this activity very much, and I believe that it was very fulfilling how our persistence was so strong, even though we are all tired. Personally I wanted to give up sometimes, because of several cramps in my leg that I got, but my team helped me and never left me alone. Several times they were willing to turn back to the dorm because of my pain, and I knew then that I had a team that could succeed in anything.

Rosa Li:
This is the first time to the United States. I find Stanford really a fantastic place. Starting from this very first day of the study tour, I am sure it will be an unforgettable tour to me and I will treasure the chance to learn more.

Selena Leung:
It is the first day staying in Stanford University. It was quite interesting but I felt very tired after playing the scavenger hunt. We had walked around the campus during the morning tour and the scavenger hunt and I found that Stanford is really big. Moreover, the meals we had are quite delicious and I enjoyed it very much.

Stephanie Chow:
In the morning, we were guided to tour around the campus. The activity in the afternoon is the scavenger hunt. It was like an adventure. Relying on maps, we walked around the campus in order to finish nearly twenty tasks. Though tiring, it was enjoyable.

Theodora Yu:
From the experience of the scavenger hunt, I realized that if we are more eager and passionate to exploration and investigation, we will be motivated to discover knowledge and truth, which leads us to become students of the right attitude when solving problems. I will certainly apply what I've gained in this activity in the future, as this will do us much more than good.

Tiffany Tsah:
Today we toured around Stanford campus. I was very astonished about the size of it. It is really a wonderful place to study in. We went on a Scavenger Hunt in the afternoon. Although we hunt under the blazing sun, it was a very enjoyable event.

Valerie Tang:
I learnt much about the history of Stanford University during the Campus Tour. The gorgeous buildings here caught my eyes. I specially had a great time taking photos of the spectacular scenery. Everything was perfect and I look forward to future activities.

Vicky Cheung:
It was very challenging today because for a lot of activities, we need to talk to people that we don’t know in the campus. I really felt very contented when they were willing to help us out in our Scavenger Hunt. I recall the main character Robert Langdon from the book “Da Vinci Code” today as I was just acting like him to complete all the tasks from clue to clue.

Victoria Chan:
Through participating in the activity of scavenger hunt, I learnt more about the school campus. I understood that it is important for us to cooperate with our group mates, and to ask the teachers to clarify whenever we are not sure about what we are going to do. This will help us to solve the problem more quickly.

Victoria Kwok:
I feel very happy to visit the Stanford University campus. I felt very tired after playing scavenger hunt. I was very surprised to find that the campus was far bigger than what I expected. The campus is very beautiful too.
